Introduction – Sky Router Automatic Upgrade
The software in your Sky hub box or router is quite likely to need an upgrade to keep functioning smoothly and efficiently. The good news is that you don’t need to do much about it and it is one of the steps done for the convenience as it is a fully automated process.
P.S: The router or Sky hub box should not be switched off during the software upgrade.
There are many questions any user may face from time to time and following are some of the sample questions.
When does the software upgrade happens?
Remote Software upgrades usually happens during night for the simple reason alone that minimum activity occurs during that time from majority of the Sky broadband users. As is seen in many cases users are seen to have switched off their routers and so in this case it happens during day time.
During this software upgrade, will the internet work?
Unfortunately no, you will not be able to use the internet during the software upgrade or even operate your e-mail.
Will I be able to work on my computer as long as this software upgrade lasts?
You can easily work on computer and use all the applications except internet.
When will I be able to access the completion of software upgrade?
Your Sky hub or router has the ability to automatically reboot once the process of software upgrade is complete and as soon as your Sky hub box or router comes online you will have access to internet on your computer.
How to check if my Sky router or hub has been upgraded or not?
You can check the status of your software upgrade of your Sky hub or router through the Sky router status page
- Go to your web browser, type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar on the top of the page and then simply press Enter to access the sky router settings.
- Enter the following login details when the system prompts.
Username: admin
Password: sky
Sky Hub SR101 Firmware
Firmware version is the latest version of your Sky hub or router which is displayed under the Maintenance menu from the Top menu. Do check this version and compare it to the information of the latest software which you will see on display at the end of the page.
Older Sky routers
Do check this version and compare it to the information of the latest software which you will see on display at the end of the page. Info on your version will be displayed at the top of your status page and is visible after you Log in.
How would I know if the software upgrade is in progress?
When the software upgrade the power light on the Sky hub box will start to blink pretty quickly and the internet light will be turned off. This will remain so till the until the reboot process stands complete. Any effort in trying to connect to the internet will result in an error message being displayed on screen which will read “No connection” on the following fault diagnostics page.
If the internet light is turned on, then it signals the completion of the up-gradation process and you will be able to connect to the internet with the diagnostics page disheartening.
Older Sky routers
When the software upgrade the power light on the Sky hub box will start to blink pretty quickly and the internet light will be turned off. If you try to connect to the internet during the upgrade you will see a sky router message come up on your screen.
This message will appear without the internet browser being open?
No, this message will appear only if the web browser is open during the process of software being upgraded.
How long will the upgrade process last?
On an average the software upgrade process will take a time of two to five minutes. In some cases, the router may need manual resetting.
If 15 minutes had transpired and the internet light is still not steady or the power light is still blinking, the following procedures can be used
- Soft Reset
Press and hold the reset button on the Sky hub for about two seconds. The Sky hub box should reboot and reconnect.
- Factory Reset
If the first step does not work you can reset the Sky hub to its default factory settings and which will also reset any changes you have made to your default wireless passwords, network ID or other such changes.
Press and hold the reset button on the back of the Sky hub until the power light flashes on and off four times, then remains on which can take about 10 seconds. The Sky hub should reboot with default settings and then connect you to the internet.
Your default Internet ID is printed on the back of the Sky hub box or router. If you are still unable to get please kindly contact Sky technical support.
For Older Sky routers
If 15 minutes had transpired and the internet light is still not steady or the power light is still blinking,
Turn the router off for roughly 10 seconds and turn it back on again.
Wait for about a minute or so for the router to find the broadband connection.
The broadband should run normally and if even after 3 or 5 minutes the power lights are still blinking then it is wise to call Technical support.
